Meet Oscar Quagliarini, the celebrated bartender currently delighting our palates with his creative concoctions at Rebelot in Milan. I sat down with him recently over a couple of (deliciously-crafted) cocktails and tried to get to know the man behind the mixology. What I discovered was an intense, determined and inquisitive mind with a constant hunger for knowledge and techniques to better his craft. Oscar has worked all over the world, from Milan to Paris, Moscow to Benin, Singapore to Mexico and is considered one of the best European mixologists, earning himself a spot as a Top World Bartender. Above all, he is also a friendly and accommodating host who spent two hours chatting cocktails with me (see the interview below) and even mixed up a drink to share on the blog. If you’re in Milan, I highly recommend you stop by Rebelot, not only for the drinks but also for the excellent and highly-acclaimed tapas-style dishes by Mauricio Zillo. If it’s not too busy, don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with Oscar while you’re there… just don’t get him started on prohibition-era cocktails – he’s known to rage against that tired trend with indignant (and loud) abomination.
